This program honors the late-20th century style of musical minimalism. Transforming the landscape of contemporary music, minimalism uses hypnotic soundscapes, shifting patterns, and luminous textures that, set alongside music, can evoke the vast landscapes and quiet transcendence of Northern Europe. Seraphic Fire performs works by Ola Gjeilo, Arvo Pärt, and Henryk Górecki, culminating in selections from Philip Glass’s groundbreaking opera Einstein on the Beach—celebrating the enduring legacy of America’s most recognizable minimalist voice.
